Overview

Evidence on living standards and social change

Socio-economic research measures the conditions people live in: income and livelihoods, housing, education, health, and access to services such as water, power, banking and the internet. It shows who is doing well, who is being left behind, and why.

We run these studies for government departments, CSR foundations, NGOs, development agencies and researchers. Our enumerators work in the local language, households are selected by sound sampling, and every interview is geo-tagged and quality checked.

What socio-economic research covers

Six study types we are asked for most often.

01

Household surveys

Structured surveys on income, assets, spending and living conditions.

02

Livelihood and income studies

How households earn, how stable it is, and what drives change.

03

Access to services

Water, power, banking, health, education and digital access.

04

Need assessments

What a community most needs before a programme is designed.

05

Community and group discussions

Focus groups and interviews that explain the numbers.

06

District and village profiles

Area profiles that combine field data with published statistics.

How It Works

How a socio-economic study runs

Five steps from design to report.

1

Design

Objectives, indicators and a sample that represents the population.

2

Tools and training

Questionnaires in local languages, tested and taught to enumerators.

3

Field work

Household and community interviews, geo-tagged and time-stamped.

4

Quality checks

Supervisor back-checks and data validation before analysis.

5

Analysis and report

Findings by area and group, with clear recommendations.

Good policy starts with an honest picture of how people actually live.
